Prairie Queen

Being Southern girls, the darling six gang have a genuine appreciation for the fields and the prairie.  What better escape when the mind needs clearing and the soul needs to be alone?
The plain gives man new and novel sensations of elation, of vastness,
of romance, of awe, and often nauseating loneliness.
- Walter Prescott Webb, The Great Plains (1931)

Darling three adds sophistication to the prairie dress with rich gold jewelry,
loose wavy hair, and her favorite accessory, the ukulele.  Long dresses are on trend right now and we love Darling three's ease and stride.  The vast open prairie lets the wind blow true and we find it hard not to fall for the mystique of this lady of the Prairie.

Stone Age Rocks

It's funny when you look back and remember some of the crazy fads that came and went.  Do you remember the geode rock trend?  This was so hot during my elementary years.  Geode rocks are rocks with crystallized interiors.  Their jagged edges and rough corners are made more beautiful from the kaleidoscopic colors of the natural rock.  We would rock this trend by wrapping yarn around the rocks and wear them as necklaces. We had nearly forgotten this fad until lo and behold we found these:

They always say that trends come ago, but these mineral rock necklaces have gone from garish to gorgeous.  With their bright stones and organic shapes, these pieces could easily jazz up any simple outfit. Aren't they fun to look at? We sure think so.

You can also find more varieties here at Unearthen's online store.

She was an unknown legend in her time

Silk top and sunglasses from Urban Outfitters, Gap pants, and vintage purse and earrings

Spring is in the air and the breeze is cool.  We always get excited to see what trends will pick up with the warm weather.  Darling three decided to focus on some of the historic trends that just keep coming back.  Here's her take on the 70's look.  Although she's not wearing the ubiquitous bell bottomed jean, her billowy top and oversized sunglasses capture the free and easy style that continues to allure.  We can't resist the faraway look in her eyes.
Peace and Love.

She makes my heart race

Sometimes a girl just needs to get swept away.
Walking around the majestic opera house in Dallas, darling three dressed up for the occasion.  We love to spend time in the arts district when we can.  Darling three shows us her take on getting dressed up with her signature free-spirited style.  She is never afraid to take some risks.  This pillared skirt paired with a silk ivory top and serious boots all come together with darling three's favorite vintage red belt.  The gold clasps on the belt create the perfect little detail that keeps us swooning.
Now if only we could get tickets to the opera ....

Blaze your own trail

We love the timeless blazer.
It has truly evolved from being the perfect lady like accent to rock star chic, down right casual, or ready for business.  It's interesting to see how its evolution has followed the emancipation of women.  We can be whoever we want to be and live our life on our own terms today.  Darling three takes it to another level with what could have been a casual look by pulling up her style with this chic ivory wool blazer.  Whether you want to dress it up or down, the blazer comes with so many options.  We love her cool girl style.  However you decide to wear it, make it your own :)

You're never too old for cartoons ...

We're not afraid to admit that some of the darling six gang just love to watch cartoons.  Paying homage to some of their favorite characters and super heroes, darling three and five wear them on these t-shirts with great pride and affection.  And just in case you were wondering, these two are the biggest comic book nerds you will ever meet.  So whether you're team batman or superman, don't be afraid to show the world the things you love, even if they're comic book related.  xo.

Winter Frolic

J. Crew blazer, scarf and ear muffs, Gap striped tee and shorts, and J.Crew booties

We've been fortunate with all of the recent snow days in Dallas.  Since it rarely ever snows here, the darling six gang couldn't get enough of the wintery white view that stretched out before our eyes these past few mornings.  Darling five manages to look cute and smart with her scarf and headgear.  We love the juxtaposed pairing of shorts and tights, all cinched together with dark ankle boots.  Darling five is definitely a gal we'd like to hang with on a cold winter's day.  Stay warm.

Time to Live It Up

Forever21 dress, shoes and scarf, Gap cardigan, J. Crew jacket, Madewell stockings, Minnie Mouse Ears

It's hard to believe that the New Year is here but we're not afraid to embrace it.  We can't wait to see what lies ahead in 2011.  Starting us off right, darling four keeps it playful and exciting.  Let's keep it spontaneous, light, fun and wonderful.  Cheers to new beginnings.

She believed in love, truth and freedom.

Urban Outfitters top, bag and shoes, Forever21 skirt and jewelery, Gap tights, Talbots hat, and Bill Blass sweater

Sometimes you've just got to do your own thing and that's true in both life and fashion.  Darling three mixes it up here with bohemian flair.  The high waisted skirt is flattering for everyone woman and perfect for winter when worn with tights.  Wearing something vintage is a rule  that Darling three never breaks.   And whether you layer on sweaters or pile on the jewelry, making a look your own is what defines true style.  Make your own rules and live your own life darling.  xo.

Ralph Lauren striped sweater hoodie, Mossimo Jean tights, and BCBG pumps

Life is all about the simple things.  Getting dressed up is always fun but it's nice to know that a classic sweater and a pair of great jeans can make you feel just as good.  Darling four pairs the classic sweater with some ripped up jean tights.  Kicking it up with some platform pumps, she makes this easy style her own.  Sometimes, less really is more.

Here are some of the simple things in life we love:
1. Smiles from a loved one
2. The hero's welcome we get from our pups when we come home
3. Fresh baked cookies and their warm comforting scent
4. Hearing your favorite song when you least expect it
5. Finding money in your pocket

What are some of your favorite simple things?

Dare to go Romantic

Vintage dress from Paris, France, J. Crew sweater, Gap Socks, Madewell 1937 clogs, Vintage hair pin from Istanbul, Turkey

Indulging in a little country getaway, the darling six gang took a long walk into the woods that began behind our house.  The windy air made for a dramatic scene but also lifted our spirits.  Ready for anything, darling five spun around in the field until the sun bid farewell.  Sometimes, all it takes is a simple walk in the woods to refresh one's spirit.  It was a welcome change of scenery.

"Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
call to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things."
-Mary Oliver
